I added a new expresso maker in the apartment. It does excellent expressos with a real flavor.

A pleasure when coming back from a long Louvre visit!

The machine is a Delonghi EC155, it uses a 15 bars pressure pump.

I is always a great pleasure to hear a guest comment, thank you. Now they are back in USA and have cleared the snow to enter their home.

"Our stay in Paris was wonderful and I loved every minute of it. The apartment was FABULOUS and the owner (Davy R.) was very helpful and accommodating.His wife (we did not meet) has wonderful taste in decorating.Davy mentioned that the building was over 300 years old or more. The exposed OLD beams of the ceiling to the apartment gave the place a wonderful rustic feel.It was perfect for the two of us. Our location was one of the oldest districts of Paris. As for getting around Paris, we walked everywhere and the train system was very convenient and easy to use when we wanted to cover more ground quickly.Did not get the chance to use the bus system, but we heard it was even cheaper to utilize.The grocery, bakery, pastry, cafe's, bars, restaurants, EVERYTHING were steps or blocks from our 'flat or apartment'. Wanted to mention that the closest grocery store is right out the front door and the owner/sales person was VERY honest, helpful and TRULY a treasure!
The Louvre was 2 blocks away! We walked to the many famous sites; Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower (walked up the stairs), L'Arc de Triomphe, Concorde, of course the Lourve and many COOL streets and neighborhoods of Paris.Caught the metro/RER to Versaille and it was FANTASTIC!Also - it was very easy to caught the metro/RER from the airport to the apartment and back. You do not need to use the TAXI's!All-in-all, we both TRULY enjoyed our stay in the apartment and Paris. When we get the chance again, we will be back.

You do not have to bring your computer to use Internet in the apartment, we added a laptop.
OS is Windows XP.

Musée de l'Orangerie

The Musée de l'Orangerie in the garden des Tuileries near the Louvre is now open. It provides us the chance to see Les Nympheas of Claude Monet. This museum has been closed since 2000 and it is now completely renovated and restructured.

Les Nympheas are one of the most impressive impresionnism paintings one could see in his live. Colors, size and perspectives of the Nympheas are an invitation to meditation. Check the virtual visit of the Nympheas (colors on the web have nothing in common with the real ones).

The Museum also offers the possibility to discover the rich collection of paintings gathered by Paul Guillaume. This collection includes paintings of famous names: Cézanne, Renoir, Picasso,
Rousseau, Matisse, Derain, Modigliani, Soutine, Utrillo and Laurencin.

Doing the visit is like meeting famous paintings that use to exist only in books.

From November 22th to March 5th the exhibition of 1934, has been re-created: "Realistic Painters" or "The Painters of Reality in France in the 17th Century". Fabulous paintings of Georges de la Tour and the Le Nain Brothers are presented.

If you do the visit of the Orangerie, begin by the Nympheas, then the Paul Guillaume collection, then have a break before seeing Realistic Painters. If time permits, visit again the Nympheas again before you go.

I regret that the visitors who do not speak French must rent some audio system to get the explanations, as no effort has been done to translate the panels.

"We stayed two weeks in February of 2005. The apartment was wonderful and had everything required for a pleasant stay. All the basics were close at hand. It is very close to metro/RER lines at Les Halles, which couldn't be more convenient for seeing the city. The hosts left a very helpful book with information. For a bit more involved food shopping, it's a quick walk across the park to the rue Montorgueil and its collection of bakeries, pastry shops, traiteurs (caterers), and an excellent marchand du vin. I had a lot of work to do the first three days we were there and my husband amused himself at the Louvre, which was just a walk away, not far at all.
The apartment configuration was quite convenient. We hosted a dinner party for six (the two of us plus four friends) and were able to manage in the space and with the available preparation area (two burners, small refrigerator, sink).
The last time I visited Paris, I stayed with a friend who had visited us often in the apartment. We walked by the front door on our way to visit a restaurant that Davy and Morgane had recommended to us. We both put our hands against the door, just to feel we were there again. I cannot wait to return. I truly felt it was our home and my husband refers to the neighborhood the same way.
Very clean, very nice hosts, perfect location, helpful guidebook, feeling you were living in the neighborhood, what more could you ask? "

Paris Cinema Festival, 2006 Edition

This year Paris summer film festival begins June 27 and ends July 11.

The opening will be under the stars at the Hotel de Ville de Paris (4th district) with the swinging animated film 'Les Triplettes de Belleville'.

A competition will promote and make discover 15 international films and distinguish 3 films.

Each night a prestigious international film will be presented to the public by the movie staff.

Peter Fonda is this year famous invitee.

A tribute will be paid to 17 French actresses with 14 French masterpieces presented with English subtitles.

Paris CineRando invite you to walk in the streets of Paris and discover famous sites that were part of the magic of the cinema. Free audioguides will be available for “Soundwalks” in English through Saint-Germain-des-Prés (6th district) or Pigalle (18th district).

New Major Museum in Paris: le Musée du Quai Branly

Le Musée du quai Branly opens today, it gathers 300000 artistic objects from civilisation of Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas. It needed 11 years of work.

According to Presidend Jacques Chirac, who is at the origin of this project:

"Central to our idea is the rejection of ethnocentrism and of the indefensible and unacceptable pretension of the West that it alone bears the destiny of humanity, and the rejection of false evolutionism, which purports that some peoples remain immutably at an earlier stage of human evolution, and that their cultures, termed “primitive”, only have value as objects of study for anthropologists or, at best, as sources of inspiration for Western artists. Those are absurd and shocking prejudices, which must be combated. There is no hierarchy of the arts and cultures any more than there is a hierarchy of peoples. First and foremost, the Quai Branly Museum is founded on the belief in the equal dignity of the world's cultures."

The collections are various: masks, stools, statues, musical instruments, textiles, costumes, jewellery, ceramics—have.
